KATHMANDU, -
Yunus Ansari, who survived Thursday’s assasination attempt behind bars, was discharged from Thapathali-based Norvic International Hospital on Saturday after undergoing treatment for a bullet injury inflicted by the ‘Indian professional contract killer’, who identified himself as Jasjeet Singh of Uttar Pradesh.
Following his discharge, police took Ansari to the Sundhara-Central Jail and has been kept in a separate room there under tight vigilance.
The hired Indian hit man had entered the jail and shot at Ansari in the visitors’ lounge at point blank range. Ansari, son of former minister of Salim Miya Ansari, is serving time in the custody on the charge of trading fake Indian currency and drugs.
In the shooting, Ansari sustained a bullet injury in his right shoulder. Singh, whose identity is yet to be established by investigators, had reached the jail under the pretext of meeting ‘notorious Bikini Killer’ Charles Sobhraj, who has fallen under a cloud of suspicion in connection with his regular contract with the professional shooter.
A team of investigators reached the Central Jail to record Sobhraj’s testimony but he waved aside the allegation saying that he did not know the shooter, who professed to have been hired by a Dubai-based henchman to murder Ansari for IRs. 1.5 million.
Security sources said police will seek help from their Indian counterparts to establish the actual identity of Singh and his two associates Ram Duvedi and Suresh Duvedi who are on the run.
